Candlelight Yin

Yin yoga is to hold the postures for a relatively longer period of time (typically 3 -5 mins.), aiming at awakening the deep connective tissues in our body, the tendons, fascia, ligaments and our meridians. Practising yin yoga on a regular basis helps to increase circulation in the joints, activate our meridians and improve overall wellbeing and flexibility.

We do also practise mindfulness during class to observe ourselves at the present moment in a non-judgmental, non-reactive and compassionate way. It is a more meditative approach to yoga as it encourages the cultivation of awareness of our inner body.

Candlelight yin, apparently, is to practise yin yoga with candlelight. We select hand-poured soy candles to further enhance the energy of the class.

There would be variations for some classes and will be stated in the class timetable:

  • Additional 15-min guided mindfulness practice by the end of class
  • Use of the Yoga Wheel to further deepen some of the stretches which may normally be inaccessible and some dynamic stretches may also be included (The class with wheel is recommended for those with at least 10 classes of yin yoga experience and this class is NOT suitable for those with spinal injuries)

Having received her degree in psychology, post-graduate degree in education and master in counselling from HKU, Cherry has ten years of experience in mainstream and special education including teaching, counselling, curriculum development and research. The more she learns, the more she finds the astonishing resemblance between yoga practice and her previous profession as an educator / a counsellor in nurturing, inspiring and healing people. Out of curiosity, she is now devoted to the search of body-mind-spirit connection through the practice of mindfulness.

She is grateful in gaining so much from yoga and loves to give it back by teaching and sharing. Her teaching respects anatomies of different bodies and offers options for various needs. Her classes are grounding, challenging and most importantly, fun! She would love to dedicate her time to share her love and passion for life and yoga with her students.
