Yin yoga is to hold the postures for a relatively longer period of time (typically 3 -5 mins.), aiming at awakening the deep connective tissues in our body, the tendons, fascia, ligaments and our meridians. Practising yin yoga on a regular basis helps to increase circulation in the joints, activate our meridians and improve overall wellbeing and flexibility.
We do also practise mindfulness during class to observe ourselves at the present moment in a non-judgmental, non-reactive and compassionate way. It is a more meditative approach to yoga as it encourages the cultivation of awareness of our inner body.
Candlelight yin, apparently, is to practise yin yoga with candlelight. We select hand-poured soy candles to further enhance the energy of the class.
There would be variations for some classes and will be stated in the class timetable:
- Additional 15-min guided mindfulness practice by the end of class
- Use of the Yoga Wheel to further deepen some of the stretches which may normally be inaccessible and some dynamic stretches may also be included (The class with wheel is recommended for those with at least 10 classes of yin yoga experience and this class is NOT suitable for those with spinal injuries)
